2024 Spring MCA Results

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) results were released this week. White Bear Lake Area Schools district-wide scores remain above the state proficiency levels in reading and math.

“We are holding steady overall, yet we know we must help our students continue to improve,” said Superintendent Wayne Kazmierczak. “Student achievement remains our top priority - for every student. We will continue to focus on 100% of students accomplishing their personalized learning plan, 100% of students being prepared for their future and 100% of students graduating."

The district's focus on redesigning learning and inspiring students to create their success includes the bringing together of students in grades 9-12 at White Bear Lake Area High School and rigorous literacy training that has been a focus of the district's elementary educators. A focus for middle school educators has been on collaboration and holding high expectations for students learning grade-level standards. District leaders expect that the district’s implementation of new science curriculum and standards will lead to an increase in future science scores, which dipped slightly below the state average this year.

Along with the recently released assessment data, we have also received encouraging news about our students' consistent attendance. At the district level, we saw a significant improvement in 2023, with consistent attendance rates rising by more than 10 percentage points compared to 2022. Some of our elementary schools saw impressive increases of more than 20 percentage points.

Our district-wide commitment to enhancing student attendance and fostering meaningful relationships within our schools will continue to be a cornerstone of our strategy. “We understand that when students are present and deeply connected to the adults and peers around them, their potential for success greatly increases,” said Kazmierczak. “We are dedicated to advancing our efforts, partnering with our families, and ensuring that each student thrives in an environment that promotes not just academic achievement but holistic growth.”
