Sitting on the northwest side of the White Bear Lake Area School District, the Otter Lake Elementary family consists of about 600 students and a dedicated staff. OLE recognizes that each child is unique, and works to recognize and encourage the development of that uniqueness as suggested by the philosophy.

This neighborhood school works hard to create a strong, positive bond between faculty, parents, students, and community.

WBLAHS graduation rate continues to climb, District exceeds state grad rate

The 2024 graduation rate at White Bear Lake Area High School* is 96.5%, topping the state rate by 12.3 percentage points and up three percentage points from last year, in data released today by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

District data, which includes students from WBLAHS along with students from the district’s Area Learning Center (ALC) and Transition Education Center (TEC) programs, shows a 91.6% four-year graduation rate for the class of 2024. This exceeds the state’s graduation rate by 7.4 percentage points.

Carla Triggs named 2025 WBLAE Teacher of the Year

Mariner Middle School Language Arts teacher Carla Triggs was named White Bear Lake Area Educators' 2025 Teacher of the Year at an April 29 celebration and recognition ceremony.

WBLAHS Automotive Program Named Exemplary Secondary Program of the Year

White Bear Lake Area High School’s Automotive Program, led by Automotive Instructor and Technology Education Building Lead Derek Doescher, has been named the Exemplary Secondary Program of the Year. This award showcases secondary level transportation programs that serve as exemplary models of institutional support, instructional leadership, and program-wide excellence.

Mariner Middle School Named Gold Star Winner for Innovation

Mariner Middle School has been named a Gold Star Winner—the highest distinction—in the 2024-25 Star of Innovation Awards presented by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). The award honors schools across Minnesota for developing and supporting exemplary, innovative educational programs.

2024-25 Coffee with Dr. K events

Community members are invited to stop by throughout the academic year for an informal chat with Superintendent Kazmierczak over a cup of coffee at the Downtown White Bear Lake Caribou Coffee for the upcoming Coffee with Dr. K events:

- May 6 from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

District Vehicles at Touch-aTruck Event

The district was represented at White Bear Lake’s Touch-A-Truck event on May 8, with students and families having fun checking out the Nutrition Services truck and a yellow school bus.

Math Masters of Minnesota Challenge 2025

Thirteen students from Otter Lake Elementary participated in the Math Masters of Minnesota Challenge. The problem-solving competition included both individual and team components.

Food Sculptures

Otter Lake fourth and fifth graders are studying the artist Claes Oldenburg who creates food sculptures including the cherry and spoon in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. This activity was highlighted in a recent video issue of the district's The Week in 62.4 Seconds.

Recess Takeover

Otter Lake Elementary recently participated in "Recess Takeover", a free training opportunity provided by Playworks/916.

School Board meetings at Sunrise Park

District staff, students, community members and board members enjoyed the first School Board meeting in the new board meeting location, the Community Room, at Sunrise Park District Service Center on March 3.

Community Confidence: Survey Highlights Support and Satisfaction

White Bear Lake Area Schools (WBLAS) recently conducted a community and parent survey to gather insights into the district's performance and community perception. The results, presented by Peter Leatherman from The Morris Leatherman Company at a School Board work session, highlight a strong sense of satisfaction and support from both district residents and parents.
